Lesson 4
Hello 3H!
Welcome to Lesson 4. We have a lot to get through today and only a short amount of time to do it. So let's get started.
Today you will have received a very important email from Mr George Tucker, CEO of Keep It Cool. He has given us the very important job a creating a water bottle cooler for his new line this summer. But before we can do this, we need to test the materials we have to use.
In your groups, you are going to perform tests on 4 different materials. Each person in your group will have an ice cube. You will need to choose a material to completely wrap your ice cube in. Then we are going to place our ice cubes in the sun and see what happens to them.
When you are choosing your materials, I want you to keep in mind what we learnt about conductors and insulators.
*an insulator is something that does not let heat and electricity go through it easily.
*a conductor is something that lets heat and electricity go through it.
Once you have chosen your material and wrapped your ice cube in it, every person in your group will need to place their ice cubes in the sun at the same time. Set your stop watches for 10 minutes.
While you wait, discuss with your group how you will present your findings to the class. You might use Excel and create a graph or table, or you might use PowerPoint. I am looking forward to seeing a range of different presentations!
I have also attached your design brief to this page. After we have watched everyone’s presentations, you will need to start designing your water bottle cooler and making a list of the materials you want to use. You can use the materials here in the classroom or you can bring something in from home.
Happy Learning!
Miss H
